Rather dull and often wet in the Alps on Friday and the weekend looks like being similar. The highest resorts in the western Alps will have snow above mid station, otherwise rain will fall. Still plenty of resorts offering uplift currently, though more will close after Sunday. Snow depths remain excellent for this stage of the season and when the sun returns there will be great sport on offer once again.

Fine spring ski conditions in the Alps again on Thursday and in the high altitude resorts that are still offering uplift for skiers there is great sport on offer, largely thanks to the substantial snow depths that remain from the epic winter. The sunshine of course helps to maximise enjoyment of the variable snow conditions, however the forecast suggests rather cloudy and wet weather is approaching this weekend.

Some light snowfall reported from the summits of the Alps again on Tuesday but otherwise mostly mild and cloudy conditions prevail. The highest resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland continue to offer uplift and when the sun shines there is good sport on offer thanks to still impressive snow depths.

Dull and damp in the Alps on Monday and this week we are left with only the highest alpine resorts still offering uplift. Temperatures look set to rise very substantially as the sunshine returns from Tuesday so warm spring conditions, even on the glaciers, can be expected with skiing on firm or soft granular snow conditions, depending on the time of day.

There was significant fresh snowfall on the upper slopes of the high resorts that are still offering skiing in the Alps and whilst the visibility was not great there was some good sport on offer. This week we are left with only the highest resort still offering uplift and temperatures look set to rise very substantially as the sum returns on Tuesday. A return to more seasonal spring conditions, even on the glaciers, is imminent.

Fresh snow fell right across the Alps on Friday and cooler air will continue to flow over the mountains this weekend, which for many resorts will be the final weekend of the season. The freezing level is generally going to be around mid mountain and with more precipitation in the forecast we can expect summit snow and resort rain. There remains excellent snow depths in all the high altitude resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland.

Very mild air in the Alps now means the snow pack is wet at all elevations. Skiing however will continue be offered for a few weeks yet in the highest resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland and all of them are still holding very substantial snow cover despite the recent thaw conditions. This week will be mostly sunny and warm, though occasional rain showers are possible. The highest pistes that face north are the best place to ski this week, unless you just want to enjoy the warm air, the views and the sunshine!
