Alps Ski Summary History

Dry and sunny conditions continue right across the Alps and the forecast for through until next week indicates more of the same to come. Whilst skiers are enjoying the fine weather and on upper slopes, some very good skiing conditions,the resorts would prefer fresh snowfall to help prepare lower pistes and resort access runs.

The extended period of dry and sunny weather over the Alps continues and resorts would prefer fresh snowfall, however skiers are enjoying the excellent dry groomed snow conditions on high elevation pistes across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland and snow cannon are boosting snow depths whenever and whereever possible.

The alpine forecast indicates we are still a week away from an end to the sunshine that skiers continue to enjoy on the high pistes of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. On these pistes conditions are good but fresh snowfall would be welcome to allow lower slopes and resort access runs to open for the season.

Skiers this week will continue to enjoy sunshine and dry groomed and packed snow on the high pistes of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland but some lower slopes and resort runs are also now on offer thanks to extensive snow making operations which are being used to boost snow depths in absence of the real thing.

Early season skiers in the Alps are enjoying sunshine conditions on the upper slopes of the high elevation alpine resorts that have already opened for the season. Snow cover on high pistes is good and thankfully, despite the sun, temperatures are low enough to allow snow cannon to operate and continue to boost natural snow depths.

The high pressure weather system over the Alps refuses to move but despite lack of fresh snow, early season skiers are enjoying excellent skiing on the upper pistes of the alpine resorts that have already opened for the season. More resorts and pistes open this weekend and snow making operations are in full swing to boost natural snow depths.

The settled and sunny overhead conditions continue in the Alps with temperatures thankfully remaining just low enough to maintain the excellent dry snow quality on the high elevation pistes that are already open across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. The forecast indicates more dry and settled weather through the weekend so until fresh snowfall arrives, skiers can enjoy firm packed and groomed snow conditions.

Many more resorts and pistes will open this weekend across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland and with low night-time temperatures snow cannon are being used to prepare slopes for skiers.

There are fine overhead conditions in the Alps currently and some very good skiing on the highest pistes of the high resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland which are now open for the season. Skiing is typically best on the glacier slopes where skiers will find a deep cover of groomed dry snow.

Recent days have been relatively mild in the Alps but the temperature is falling again and already many of the high pistes that are open across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland have fresh snow cover. Milder air and high winds have been damaging snow cover in the Alps but it will turn colder with heavy snowfall by the end of the week.
