Alps Ski Summary History

Very heavy snowfall will continue in the Alps through Monday but by Tuesday skies will have cleared and when that happens there will be superb snow conditions on offer on main groomed pistes. Off piste however there will certainly be a very high avalanche risk and so skiers must take great caution and observe local warnings.

Snow continues to fall in the Alps with the resorts of France and Switzerland reporting the heaviest precipitation. Across Italy and Austria the snow is also fresh but here there is a greater likelihood that your ski day will have good visibility and occasional periods of sunshine. The air is cold at all elevations and so piste conditions are dry and powdery and great to ski.

The Alps continue to experience heavy snowfall and the avalanche risk is high. Snow conditions on the pistes that have been groomed are excellent as low temperatures mean that the surface snow is very dry at all elevations. The forecast promises more snow to come through the weekend, most heavy in France and Switzerland.

The premier resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland are offering fresh dry snow conditions at all elevations and snow depths are substantial. The avalanche risk in the French and Swiss Alps, and also the most western resorts of Italy, is very high and with further heavy snowfall expected the risk will not reduce anytime soon, so skiers must heed local risk warnings.

Fresh snow is being reported by all the leading winter resorts in the Alps and so already impressive snow depths on piste are being boosted further. With the freezing level remain close to, or below, resort elevation the snow conditions are excellent and when visibility is decent the skiing is superb.

Fresh snowfall is sweeping across the Alps with France and Switzerland catching the heaviest snow so far. The alpine forecast promises further snows for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland and so once the weather settles superb skiing conditions can be expected.

Glorious alpine ski conditions in the leading resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland are now giving way to fresh snow and the remainder of this week will see further precipitation and often limited visibility. Snow depths and snow quality remain excellent with the freezing level typically below resort elevation.

After superb sunshine ski days in the Alps over the weekend the weather closes in again through Monday evening with fresh snow moving from west to east across the Alps. The rest of the week also promises further snow, not that it is required as all leading resorts already have excellent snow depths at all elevations.

There are wonderful conditions for skiers right across the Alps right now with all the leading winter resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland boasting deep dry snow cover at all elevations. Overhead conditions now are clear and sunny with light winds but the forecast promises a weather change with fresh snow soon expected.

Overhead conditions this weekend are settled and bright but cold right across Alps and skiers are enjoying deep fresh dry snow conditions at all elevations. The avalanche risk remains high in the parts of the western Alps that recently caught exceptionally heavy snowfall, so do observe local hazard warnings and ski with a local guide if venturing off piste.

After recent extreme snowfalls the weather conditions are now settled in the Alps and there is some great skiing on offer. A limited number of resorts in the western Alps still have a very high avalanche risk, but on-piste the skiing in almost all the premier resorts is excellent with groomed dry snow and most lifts operating normally.

The extreme snowfall of recent days in the western Alps has now eased and skies have cleared, but the avalanche risk in certain parts of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps remains at the top of the scale and for ski resorts in these locations it means that uplift and skiable terrain is limited whilst piste patrol work to make safe the area.

Extremely heavy snowfall is limiting skiing in a number of resorts in the western and southern Alps as the avalanche risk is now at the top of the scale. The forecast for the remainder of the week indicates snowfall will now ease across the Alps and sunshine will return, but it may take a number of days to re-open the pistes most at risk of avalanche.

There are excellent ski conditions on offer in all the premier resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland this week. Parts of the western Alps are experiencing very heavy snowfall and in these areas the avalanche risk is now at the top of the scale, but elsewhere skiers will typically find pistes covered in deep and groomed powdery snow.

The alpine forecast indicates periods of further snowfall, heaviest in the western Alps, and also lower temperatures through this week, but when sun shines the skiing will be superb.

There are superb skiing conditions right across the Alps now with an abundance of fresh dry snow in all the premier resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. Weekend weather is bright, visibility good and winds have eased but further snowfall and much lower temperatures are on their way for week ahead.

After days of very heavy snowfall and high winds conditions in the Alps are now easing and there is some excellent skiing in prospect as skies clear. The avalanche risk remains almost at the top of the scale in parts of the French and Swiss Alps so local warnings must be observed but where pistes are open skiers can expect deep dry snow conditions.

This weekend skiers can expect periods of heavy snowfall to give way to mostly sunny skies on Sunday and skiing will be on fresh powder snow at all elevations.

Christmas sunshine is now giving way to fresh snowfall in the Alps with the resorts of France and Switzerland first to see the weather change. With lower temperatures and snowfall now forecast to move right across the Alps over the next couple of days before sunshine returns, skiers can look forward to superb end of year alpine skiing conditions.

Conditions have been fabulous for skiers right across the Alps through Christmas but a weather change arrives late Boxing Day bringing fresh snowfall and lower temperatures. The French and Swiss Alps will see the fresh snow arrive first but through midweek all parts of the Alps will be affected and so the prospects for superb year-end skiing look excellent.

Piste conditions are typically groomed and packed dry snow with the best skiing found on upper slopes. On Boxing Day a weather change arrives in the Alps and with it lower temperatures and fresh snowfall.

There are wonderful conditions on offer for Christmas skiers arriving in the leading winter resorts of the Alps with sunshine and deep snow cover. Temperatures through until Christmas Day will remaining just low enough to preserve ideal groomed dry snow on piste to resort elevation, but then the forecast indicates a weather change on Boxing Day that will bring significant fresh snowfall and lower temperatures.
