Last updated: Tue 08th Apr, 2014 at 14:26

Our daily updated synopsis for conditions in the Alps has now finished for the season but our resort specific snow reports and the mountain forecasts, which update four times per day, continue throughout the year.

Last updated: Sat 05th Apr, 2014 at 12:55

The Alps are experiencing unsettled weather with mostly cloudy skies and occasional rain showers. Snowfall is only affecting the highest summits as the freezing level remains very high. All the leading alpine resorts are still offering most of their skiable terrain and once the sunshine returns there is likely to be fine spring style ski conditions on offer.

Last updated: Thu 03rd Apr, 2014 at 12:02

Skies in the Alps are rather cloudy currently with only occasional spells of sunshine being reported by the leading resorts. Snow conditions are now wet and heavy at low elevations due to the freezing level being close to summit level through the day. On Friday it will continue cloudy with a slight risk of rain showers, mostly in the western Alps. However, when the sunshine comes expect very enjoyable spring style ski conditions, especially on high altitude pistes.

Last updated: Wed 02nd Apr, 2014 at 13:34

It remains very mild in the Alps with the freezing level through the day still close to summit level. All the leading alpine resorts however are still more or less fully operational with skiers heading to the high pistes to find the best snow conditions. On Thursday its seems there will be more cloud around than of late and also the possibility of some precipitation, which will only fall as sleet or snow on the summits.

Last updated: Tue 01st Apr, 2014 at 12:57

The freezing level in the Alps through the day is sitting close to summit level in all the leading resorts. Skiing is therefore on wet snow at base elevation and on resort access pistes, where snow cover is reducing fast. Only on the highest slopes is the snow still firm packed and this is where most skiers prefer to ski. The best skiing is now typically found on the glacier pistes of the highest alpine resorts.

Last updated: Mon 31st Mar, 2014 at 16:27

The Alps are offering spring style ski conditions currently with mild air and plenty of sunshine. The snow is now wet at lower elevations but above mid station skiers will find firmer snow cover and still excellent snow depths. The leading alpine resorts are still offering most upper level lifts and pistes and most hold enough snow for skiers to ski back to resort level at the end of the day.

Last updated: Sun 30th Mar, 2014 at 09:55

It is mostly sunshine skiing in the Alps now with temperatures feeling very spring like and the freezing level rising to summit level in most resorts. The snow conditions are now becoming more variable, the snow is wet and heavy on lower slopes and resort runs, but firmer and better to ski on the higher pistes. More sunshine expected this week so expect classic spring style ski conditions. Remember to apply sun block!

Last updated: Sat 29th Mar, 2014 at 16:21

Temperatures are rising in the Alps and on Sunday the freezing level will close to summit level in many of the leading alpine resorts. Snow conditions are therefore variable, heavy on lower slopes and firm packed above mid mountain. The actual snow cover though remains very good for this late stage of the season. The forecast looks mild for the next few days with cloudy spells but also periods of sunshine.

Last updated: Fri 28th Mar, 2014 at 15:20

The freezing level is rising in the Alps and on Saturday it will be around the 2500m mark. With plenty of sunshine expected through the weekend conditions are once again going to feel spring like with snow becoming heavy on lower slopes. However as most of the leading alpine resorts hold excellent snow depths there is going to be great skiing on offer, especially on all high level pistes.

Last updated: Thu 27th Mar, 2014 at 15:54

There is very good skiing on offer in all the leading alpine resorts currently with the best of the snow conditions typically found above mid mountain elevation. On Friday there is expected to be plenty of sunshine right across the Alps and with the freezing level rising to around 2000 metres it will feel like spring. Most lifts and most pistes remain open and snow depths are generally excellent for this stage of the season.

Last updated: Wed 26th Mar, 2014 at 15:43

There was variable cloud cover in the Alps on Wednesday and some scattered snow showers but also some periods of good visibility and even sunshine. This meant some very good skiing at times in most of the leading alpine resorts which currently can boast fresh snow cover and more or less all runs still complete at all elevations. More of the same is expected on Thursday with the outlook beyond that looking mostly dry and settled.

Last updated: Tue 25th Mar, 2014 at 14:50

Skiers are enjoying fresh dry snow in the Alps now with powder snow conditions reported from the high elevation alpine resorts. The recent heavy snowfall has now eased and on Wednesday skies will be partly cloudy with occasional snow possible, but also periods of sunshine. With the freezing level typically close to resort level through the day pistes are mostly in good condition from summit to resort.

Last updated: Mon 24th Mar, 2014 at 15:14

Deep fresh snow was reported from many of the leading alpine resorts on Monday and that follows a wild weekend of weather that saw ski conditions transformed back to full winter cover. The freezing level is now much lower than it has been for the last 2 weeks and so the new snow is dry at most elevations. More light snowfall is expected in the Alps this week but also some bright spells to help maximise enjoyment of the new snow.

Last updated: Sun 23rd Mar, 2014 at 15:24

Some very heavy snowfall in the Alps on Sunday, mostly located over Switzerland and northern Austria so now all leading resorts have fresh snow cover and piste conditions have been transformed. On Monday there will be further snowfall but only significant amounts will fall in the eastern Alps and the Dolomites. The freezing level is also falling so any further fresh snowfall will be dry to resort level.

Last updated: Thu 20th Mar, 2014 at 15:04

Another day of glorious sunshine in the Alps on Thursday but that marks the end of a long a mild spell of spring style ski conditions. On Friday skies will become more cloudy from the north and some light rain and sleet showers are likely. By late Saturday significant fresh snowfall will be sweeping over the Alps and more will follow next week. So skiers should now be prepared for the imminent return of winter!

Last updated: Wed 19th Mar, 2014 at 12:10

Some light cloud across the northern Alps early on Wednesday gave way to sunshine once again and it was mostly warm spring style skiing on offer in all the leading alpine resorts. This theme will continue until Saturday when rain, then sleet and snow arrive from the north west to affect most parts of the Alps as the freezing level falls. So enjoy the sunshine whilst it lasts and get your googles ready for the weekend.

Last updated: Tue 18th Mar, 2014 at 13:59

Tuesday was another glorious day of sunshine in the Alps and very mild, the freezing level close to 3000m. The snow conditions are often soft on upper slopes but heavy and slushy on lower slopes. The forecast suggests this warm spring weather is soon to end. On Wednesday the northern Alps will have some cloud and perhaps rain showers. By the weekend it will become colder with rain, sleet and then snow in most parts of the Alps.

Last updated: Mon 17th Mar, 2014 at 13:00

Skiers are enjoying warm spring sunshine in the Alps currently and all the leading alpine resorts report wet and thawing snow conditions on lower slopes. Skiers are preferring to ski above mid mountain elevation as this is where the snow is firmer and better to ski. The forecast suggests a few more days of sun, but then winter returns with snow forecast for the weekend.

Last updated: Sun 16th Mar, 2014 at 16:09

Light rain was reported by some resorts in Austria and Switzerland on Sunday and skies were often cloudy right across the Alps. On Monday however we return to sunshine and classic spring style ski conditions with wet snow on lower slopes, soft to firm packed snow above mid station elevation. The spring weather will continue through the week but the forecast for next weekend suggests winter is not over with heavy fresh snow expected in most resorts.

Last updated: Sat 15th Mar, 2014 at 15:14

Skies were mostly overcast in the Alps on Saturday. Some resorts had good spells of sunshine and others reported rain showers. Indeed temperatures are too mild now for snowfall except on the highest pistes. The forecast however suggests that we will return to spring sunshine through Sunday and into next week. Skiing conditions remain good when the visibility is decent, but snow conditions are wet on lower slopes and firm or hard packed on upper slopes. Slopes with a northerly aspect hold the best and driest snow but at this time of year skiers usually prefer sunshine and that

Last updated: Fri 14th Mar, 2014 at 14:54

After an epic week of sunshine the weekend weather for the Alps looks less settled with some cloud and some light precipitation possible at times. Generally though the situation for skiers remains very good and further sunshine is expected next week. Snow conditions on lower slopes are sometimes heavy but higher pistes remain in great shape with skiing on firm packed snow. All leading alpine resorts are still offering almost all their uplift and all their pistes.

Last updated: Thu 13th Mar, 2014 at 16:33

The sunshine and mild air in the Alps means that the snow pack has consolidated and so snow depths are reducing. However there is still enough snow at all elevations in all the leading alpine resorts to offer excellent skiing. Typically the best snow is on the highest slopes and on north facing aspects. Friday promises to be another excellent ski day with clear skies.

Last updated: Wed 12th Mar, 2014 at 14:58

The settled weather in the Alps continues with skies mostly blue and temperatures mild, especially on south facing slopes. The snow conditions at lower elevations are now feeling the effect of temperatures being several degrees above 0C through the day but most skiers are enjoying the still excellent snow on higher slopes. The weather will continue like this until the weekend so really perfect Spring style skiing on offer in all leading alpine resorts.

Last updated: Tue 11th Mar, 2014 at 15:03

The Alps are still bathed in sunshine and more of the same is expected through Wednesday, and through until the weekend. Skiing on lower elevations is often on Spring like snow conditions as a daytime thaw and night time re freeze affects the snow pack. Upper slopes though still offer dry and groomed snow that is great to ski throughout the day. So really fantastic holiday conditions for skiers right now across the Alps of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland.

Last updated: Mon 10th Mar, 2014 at 13:14

We have excellent Spring ski conditions right across the Alps currently. Warm sunshine and mild air is thawing the snow at lower elevations and on south facing slopes through each afternoon but the highest pistes and high north facing slopes still hold dry snow. Snow depths are reducing but not quickly as night time temperatures fall back below zero degrees C. Generally the snow cover remains good at all elevations in all the leading resorts so really great sunshine skiing is what to expect if you

Last updated: Sun 09th Mar, 2014 at 15:08

All the leading alpine resorts are enjoying the same glorious weather currently with almost clear blue skies, mild temperatures and light winds. Snow depths are also exceptionally good, though in the warm sunshine the snow conditions on lower slopes are becoming heavier and Spring style ski conditions are developing. The best snow is now found on pistes above mid station elevation and powder snow can still be found on high north facing slopes.

Last updated: Sat 08th Mar, 2014 at 13:51

Really glorious ski conditions in the Alps currently with clear blue skies and sunshine plus superb snow cover - it really does not get much better than this. And the forecast for the next 7 days suggests we have more of the same to come. Temperatures are mild this weekend so as you might expect the snow at lower elevations will become heavier, but otherwise it really is classic Spring skiing conditions in the Alps.

Last updated: Fri 07th Mar, 2014 at 12:58

The skies cleared right acrosss the Alps on Friday and every resort was reporting blue skies and unbroken sunshine. Temperatures will still quite cool though, not much above freezing at resort level and this meant the skiing was still on excellent snow conditions, dry and powdery on upper pistes. The avalanche risk is also reducing, typically low to moderate but do check locally advisories and use a guide before heading off piste.

Last updated: Thu 06th Mar, 2014 at 14:53

There are excellent skiing conditions in all the leading alpine resorts now and on Friday the skies will be clear allowing prolonged sunshine. Combining the sunshine with the recent fresh and dry snow conditions will make for some of the best conditions of the winter, especially in France, Switzerland and Italy which have experienced so many snow days this year.
