Alps Ski Summary History

There are winter wonderland scenes in the Alps this week with the best pre-Christmas ski conditions in many years. The French and Swiss Alps have the deepest cover of fresh snow but the leading resorts of Austria and Italy are also boasting impressive snow cover at all elevations. Further snowfall is forecast this week but also expect extended periods of winter sunshine.

There are superb skiing conditions on offer right across the Alps now with all the leading resorts and pistes now open. Snow conditions are dry and powdery at all elevations and further snowfall is in the alpine forecast. The Northern Alps can boast the deepest snow depths but freely or this stage of the winter the snow cover is exceptionally good everywhere.

There are excellent snow conditions on offer for skiers in all the premier winter resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland this weekend. The Northern Alps have the deepest accumulations of fresh snow but the Italian Alps and the Dolomites still have impressive snow cover at all elevations with piste skiing typically on groomed dry snow.

Further snowfall is expected through this weekend when many more lifts and pistes will open for the season.

Snow cover and conditions for skiers are excellent at this early stage of the season in the Alps and fresh dry snow is reported from all the leading resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. The alpine forecast indicates further snowfall to come and with low temperatures also expected skiers can look forward to powder snow conditions.

Heavy snowfall and low temperatures continue to improve the already excellent early season snow cover in the leading ski resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. Piste skiing is now typically on dry and fresh powder snow whilst off piste is not advised currently as the risk of avalanche is very high and visibility often poor.

Heavy snow had been falling across the Alps with the resorts of France and Switzerland catching the most significant accumulations. The pistes of Austria and Italy though are also looking good with natural snowfall being boosted by snow cannon operations. Prospects for skiers across the Alps for the week ahead look excellent with further snowfall expected.

Fresh dry powder snow conditions are now on offer for early season skiers in the leading alpine resorts of Austria, France. Italy and Switzerland. It has been a great start to the ski season and with more snowfall forecast over the next few days, and with the freezing level well below resort elevation, already good piste conditions will improve further.

Skiers are enjoying groomed powder snow conditions on the upper pistes of the early opening alpine resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. The overhead conditions in the Alps are calm and cool currently but by Friday heavy snowfall and lower temperatures are forecast.

There is already excellent early season skiing on offer in the high elevation resorts of Austria, France,Italy and Switzerland with pistes typically well covered in dry groomed powder snow. Through this week skies above the alpine resorts will mostly be bright and visibility good but by the weekend colder air and fresh heavy snowfall is expected.

The Alps are white with fresh snow cover being reported at all elevations in the leading winter resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. Excellent skiing conditions are on offer in the highest resorts already, and further resort and piste openings are planned for this weekend so a very promising start to the new ski season.

The recent dry and sunny weather in the Alps is coming to an end this weekend as fresh snowfall arrives through Saturday and then heavier snowfall will develop right across the Alps on Sunday. Already there is good high elevation skiing in the early opening resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland and whilst visibility may be limited by the weather change prospects look good for next week with more resorts opening for the new season.

There is good high elevation skiing on offer in the glacier resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. Temperatures are also low enough to allow snow cannon to prepare lower slopes and resort access runs in anticipation of any natural snowfall.

The Alps have seen no major snowfall in recent days but low temperatures are preserving the cover already laid down this winter and the early opening, high elevation resorts are currently boosting natural snow cover with extensive snow cannon operations. St Anton in Austria and Val Thorens in France are two of the big names that start their season this weekend.

Fresh snowfall has arrived in the Alps, the first significant falls of November, and once again the Alps are white. The highest elevation slopes of the few alpine resorts already open, have excellent fresh snow conditions though overhead visibility is often poor.

Spring skiing conditions are on offer in the Alps right now with mild temperatures and sunshine, but still some great sport to be found on the high pistes of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. This weekend cloud will build and some fresh snowfall is expected above 2500m.

The sunshine has returned to the Alps this week and many of the highest pistes of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland have fresh dry snow, so there is some great skiing on offer. Lower slopes now have mostly wet snow and so certainly the best sport is at the higher elevations.

Fresh snow cover is now on offer across many high pistes of the Alps and with cooler air temperatures this week the skiing conditions will be excellent, particularly when the sunshine returns. Lower slopes have more variable conditions but at this stage of the season skiers will anyway be heading high for the best sport.

The western Alps of Italy and the southern resorts of France have fresh snow cover on upper slopes but further east and across the northern Alps the temperatures are milder and the skiing and snow conditions are more like spring. For the week ahead, skiers in the Alps will find the very best snow on the highest pistes.

The southern Alps of France and the western Alps of Italy have fresh snow cover and these areas will see further snowfall late on Saturday. Through Sunday the snow will arrive in most other parts of the Alps and so for all the premier alpine resorts there is some great skiing in prospect for next week.
