There has been further snowfall in the Alps with the heaviest falls reported over Austria. Skiing in all the leading alpine resorts though is very good now and with the weather delivering a combination of sunshine followed by cloud and snowfall the situation for skiers is pretty much idea. Low temperatures also mean that the snow cover on piste is dry and powdery and great to ski.

Excellent snow conditions in the Alps now and really the weather is ideal for skiers with a combination of extended periods of sunshine and then snowfall expected to repeat throughout the week. Snow conditions are excellent right across the Alps now but overhead the weather conditions are much more variable. The next few days will see cloud and fresh snowfall combined with periods of sunshine. Temperatures are set to stay low, usually not much above 0C at resort level through the day, and so the dry snow conditions, that skiers love, will be maintained at all elevations.

Last updated: Fri 23rd Jan, 2015 at 14:25

Variable overhead conditions can be expected in the Alps this weekend with some sunshine, some snowfall and also periods of poor visibility likely. The actual snow conditions however are now very good in all the leading alpine resorts with skiers mostly enjoying packed powder snow conditions on both high and low pistes. With temperatures continuing to be very cold these dry snow conditions, which are great to ski, will be preserved.

There are excellent snow conditions in the Alps now with all the leading resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland boasting fresh and dry snow cover at all elevations. Temperatures are very low, and forecast to continue very low through next week, and this is helping to maintain the very dry and powdery snow cover that skiers love to ski. Additionally, further snowfall is also in the forecast.

Last updated: Wed 21st Jan, 2015 at 13:38

There is good skiing right now across the Alps of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland with the deepest snow cover of the winter on lower and upper pistes. With low temperatures prevailing the snow is dry and great to ski and with more snow in the forecast conditions will continue to improve.

Last updated: Tue 20th Jan, 2015 at 14:03

The forecast promises more of the same through to the weekend, so conditions now really are the best they have been this winter.

Last updated: Mon 19th Jan, 2015 at 14:21

The conditions in the Alps are now the best they have been this winter with fresh dry snow at all elevations. This week the weather is great for skiing with periods of sunshine followed by further snowfall. Pistes offer mostly groomed powder snow and low temperatures are maintaining these conditions all the way down to resort level.

Last updated: Sun 18th Jan, 2015 at 15:51

Fresh powder snow and blue skies meant wonderful ski conditions right across the Alps through the weekend. The week ahead promises more classic alpine conditions with low temperatures and period of snowfall followed by periods of sunshine. Last updated: Sat 17th Jan, 2015 at 16:24

There is fresh snow over the northern Alps now and more is on its way. All the alpine resorts expect heavy snow at times through this weekend and the prospects for skiers once the weather clears are excellent. So skiers heading to the Alps can now look forward to powder snow skiing and, next week, a mix of sunshine and further snowfall.

Last updated: Wed 14th Jan, 2015 at 14:11

Fresh snow has been falling in the northern Alps and much more will arrive by the weekend. It is great news for both skiers and the alpine resorts who all want more snow, as so far this winter snow conditions have often been poor and snow depths have been unusually low.

Last updated: Tue 13th Jan, 2015 at 13:16

There has been some glorious sunshine skiing on fresh snow in the Alps for the start of this week but now cloud is building and snow will soon again start falling. All the leading resorts still very much need more snow and the forecast indicates that is what they are going to get, as heavy snowfall can be expected in almost all parts of the Alps in the coming days.

Last updated: Mon 12th Jan, 2015 at 14:46

There is fresh snow in most parts of the Alps now and skiing conditions have improved. However lower slopes in most of the leading resorts need much more snow to fall and skiers are still finding the best sport on the high pistes where the pisted snow conditions are now quite good. Off piste conditions are dangerous due to recent temperature changes and snow depths being much less than is normal.

Last updated: Sun 11th Jan, 2015 at 12:35

Sunday saw fresh snow in almost all the leading resorts of the Alps and temperatures fell below freezing at all elevations. Conditions for skiers have therefore improved but more snow is required as snow depths remain fall below the norm. The forecast suggests more snow later in the week but before then there will be more sunshine to enjoy the new snow.

Last updated: Sat 10th Jan, 2015 at 16:34

The freezing level has been yoyo-ing in the Alps but on Sunday snow will be falling in most parts and at most elevations. The heaviest snowfall will be in the eastern Alps but conditions everywhere will greatly benefit from any fresh snow. By Monday the snowfall will ease and then conditions are expected to become drier and milder.

Last updated: Fri 09th Jan, 2015 at 15:01

In the Alps currently there is a wide range of snow conditions due to shifts in the freezing level. Generally though lower slopes have limited or thin snow cover and so the best skiing is on higher pistes where the snow is deeper and in better condition. All resorts across the Alps would benefit from fresh snowfall and the forecast suggests that will arrive on Sunday.

Last updated: Thu 08th Jan, 2015 at 13:31

The recent calm and sunny weather in the Alps is now giving way to more unsettled conditions. Skiers in all the leading resorts of Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland are finding the best conditions on the highest pistes as at the lower elevations the snow is very hard packed and the cover not very deep. Snow forecast for the weekend will be very welcome everywhere.

Last updated: Wed 07th Jan, 2015 at 16:47

Still more sunshine to come in the Alps but by the end of the week the weather will have changed with cloud and then snow to follow through the weekend. Until then skiers are finding the best snow conditions on the upper pistes of all the leading resorts, though even here the snow is hard packed and certainly the arrival of fresh snow will be very welcome.

Last updated: Tue 06th Jan, 2015 at 16:42

Sunshine skiing is on offer in the Alps currently but things will change by the weekend when the weather becomes less stable with cloud and snowfall returning. Until then the upper pistes of all the leading ski resorts are offering good sport with skiing on either hard packed or packed powder snow. Lower slopes often have limited snow depth and are mostly being used by skiers heading back to resort level at the end of the ski day.

Last updated: Mon 05th Jan, 2015 at 14:26

Sunshine skiing in the Alps for the next couple of days but with temperatures cool enough to preserve the good snow conditions on upper slopes. Lower pistes tend to be hard packed but with the resorts relatively quiet skiers can enjoy plenty of space to ski where the driest and most powdery snow lies, and that is on the higher elevation alpine pistes.

Last updated: Sun 04th Jan, 2015 at 15:41

High pistes in the Alps mostly have fresh and dry snow conditions and the the skiing at this elevation is good. Lower slopes have more variable conditions but typically the snow is hard packed. The next few days look like being mostly sunny but also cool enough to preserve current conditions. So with pistes now quiet there is good skiing in prospect.

Last updated: Sat 03rd Jan, 2015 at 14:04

There is fresh snow on the high ski slopes of the Alps now but lower slopes mostly hold wet or hard packed snow cover. The freezing level is lower in the east towards Austria, milder in the west towards the French Alps but as resorts are relatively quiet now skiers right across the Alps will be able to find good skiing, mostly on high pistes.

Last updated: Thu 01st Jan, 2015 at 14:53

Fine skiing conditions for starting 2015 in the Alps with sunshine and dry snow at all elevations. All the leading resorts are offering most pistes and almost all uplift. Lower slopes and main resort access runs often have hard packed snow conditions but higher slopes hold groomed and packed powder snow. More variable overhead conditions and milder air expected for the next 2 days however.
