Drought Shrinking Sao Paulo Reservoirs

Southeastern Brazil is suffering through one of its worst droughts in decades. The situation is worst near the Sao Paulo metropolitan area (home to about 20 million people) and in the state of the same name. Rainfall totals for the year are 300 to 400 millimeters (12 to 16 inches) below normal, and reservoirs are down to 3 to 5 percent of storage capacity.
